About Nomad
Nomad Backcountry Adventures was founded by Meg Letson and Rachel Pomerantz in 2004 to introduce people to the rewards of sharing challenging outdoor adventures., Drawing on years of experience in the outdoor, environmental, and adventure education fields, Meg and Rachel combine their expertise and passion for learning through nature to bring you trips unique in creativity, adaptability, and focus on the small details. By honoring the simple things: beautiful surroundings, good friends, delicious food, and challenges of the trail, our trips invite trekkers to take part in journeys of personal development and growth. Exploratory and free-spirited in nature, each trip is carefully designed to foster stewardship, empowerment, community, and fun.
Activities including technical outdoor skill building—like orienteering—yoga, international backcountry cooking, astronomy, and team-building challenges enhance days of hiking, whitewater rafting, and camping. Curriculum is determined directly by trekkers’ interest and input through pre-trip questionnaires, ongoing assessment, and dialogue during the trip—each trip’s focus is guided by its participants. Through small group sizes, scrupulous attention to details, and preventative safety measures, all Nomad participants are supported and encouraged in a safe and accepting environment.
Nomad strives to be inclusive by offering trips that are both financially and technically accessible. We plan itineraries for a variety of skill levels and we provide most necessary outdoor gear, including tent, backpack, sleeping bag and pad, headlamps, bandanas, ponchos, and more; participants merely bring boots, enthusiasm, and a sense of adventure!

"The guides were so great at making everyone feel proud of what they accomplished while always challenging us (adults included!) to try something new and push ourselves a little harder. They were just the right amount of "fun" and "firm" when working with the kids ."
-W.H. Wallace, MAEd

“Everything exceeded my expectations, but your guides’ patience and empathy with the children stood out.”

“…My twin girls and two of their friends attended last summer and came home different kids...they enjoyed every moment of their trip and had a sense of accomplishment and wonder. We have been a big camping, hiking and rafting family for years but this trip far outweighed our expectations. The staff was responsible, caring and educated about outdoor adventures...Highly recommend Nomad to any family wanting their child to get an "out of the typical" camp experience. We will be returning this year.”
